No Kings Crochet Tapestry Pattern

This crochet tapestry is a crownless declaration. No Kings isn’t just about rejecting monarchies—it’s about rejecting systems of power that put a few above the many. It’s for the anarchists, the anti-authoritarians, the queers who won’t bow down, and the crafters who believe that softness can still be subversive.

Whether you’re railing against billionaires, bigots, or bootlickers, this is your reminder: we don’t need rulers—we need each other. Stitch it as protest. Stitch it as power. Stitch it because you answer to no one.

Stitch guide

  • Single Crochet Stitch (sc) insert hook into stitch, pull through 1 loop (leaving 2 loops on the hook), yarn over, pull through both loops
  • Color Changing: As you’re moving through a single crochet stitch, when you are left with the 2 loops on the hook, do not complete the stitch with your current color. Drop color 1, grab color two, pull that through the 2 loops on your hook and continue on to your next stitch with the new color. Seamless transition with no knots!

The chart

This pattern is worked as a continuous piece from top to bottom.

It’s super important to reference this chart while stitching to ensure your letters come out correctly. That way, even if you accidentally add or subtract a stitch, your text will still line up.

Outside of lining up your text, this tapestry is super forgiving and customizable. If you accidentally end up with too many stitches, you can hide it by adding an edging to the tapestry if you’d like.

This crochet pattern uses US terms and is written for right-handed crocheters.

***FOR LEFT HANDED CROCHETERS***- Work the pattern rows backward to ensure your letters come out facing the correct way.

Optional- Adding the felt backing

Cut your felt backing to size, but ensure there is about 1/8 of an inch of crochet left out of the edge. You don’t want to see it from the front side when your wall hanging is up.

Hot glue your felt pieces carefully along the edge of your work. Go slow and press out any gaps or folds in the felt to get a smooth edge. Adding the felt will also help with flattening out the piece, so you can avoid blocking.

Option A for hanging- Felt hang tabs

Sew or glue felt tabs about 1inch thick in equal spacing along the back of your work. Insert the dowel into the loops and add a hanging string.

Option B for hanging- Crocheting around a wooden dowel

You can choose to crochet around the wooden dowel directly from your work. Here is a tutorial with a video!
