With chunky bobble stitches that pop right off the fabric, this pillow makes a perfect statement piece for your couch, bed, or favorite rage-crafting corner. Check out this section of the site for more subversive crochet patterns.

This pattern is written for advanced beginners who are comfortable with single crochet and ready to level up with bobbles and simple color changes. Stitch Guide

Single Crochet (sc)

Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through 1 loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through both loops.

Bobble Stitch (bob)

Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through 1 loop (3 loops on hook).
Yarn over, pull through 2 loops.
Repeat this process 3 more times (4 total) until you have 5 loops on the hook.
Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.

Optional: Color Changing

When working the single crochet before a bobble, stop when you have 2 loops left on the hook. Drop Color A, yarn over with Color B, and pull through those loops. Continue with the bobble stitch using Color B.

If you have multiple bobbles in a row, continue with Color B until you reach the single crochet after the final bobble, then switch back to Color A using the same method.

Pattern Notes

  • This pillow is worked in two separate panels (front and back) and joined together at the end.
  • The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does NOT count as a stitch.
  • On the front panel, bobble stitches are always worked on even-numbered rows.
  • Odd rows are worked entirely in single crochet.
  • The single crochet stitches on either side of each bobble help the stitch puff outward.
  • To resize the pillow:
    • Add rows above and below the text, or
    • Increase the starting chain in multiples of 2 (80 → 82 → 84, etc.) and add the same number of rows.

Join Together

With your hook still on the last stitch, insert your hook into the bottom corner of the front panel. Insert hook through the next stitch in both the front and back panels and join with a single crochet. Continue across to the corner.

Work 4 single crochets in the corner, turn your work, and continue single crocheting evenly up the side. Work 4 single crochets in the top corner, continue across the top, then work 4 single crochets in the next corner. Stitch about halfway down the final side.

Stuff the pillow to your preferred level of puffiness. Continue stitching down the final side to seal the pillow closed, working 3 single crochets in the final corner.

Tie off and weave in all ends. You did it.

FAQ

Can I resize this crochet pillow?

Yes! You can resize the pillow by increasing your starting chain in multiples of 2 and adding the same number of rows, or by adding rows above and below the text section.

Is this pattern beginner friendly?

This pattern is best for advanced beginners. You’ll need to be comfortable with single crochet and willing to try bobble stitches and optional color changes.

Can I sell finished pillows made from this pattern?

You may sell finished items made from this pattern. Please do not sell, share, or redistribute the pattern itself.

What yarn works best for this pillow?

Any medium weight (worsted) yarn works well. Choose something with good stitch definition so the bobbles really pop.

Can I use only one color?

Absolutely. The pillow still looks great worked in a single color if you want a more subtle version (or just don’t feel like color changing that day).
