How many times have you heard that crochet is just for grandmas? While there’s something heartwarming about these fiber arts being passed down through generations, the pandemic sparked a fresh wave of interest among younger crafters. In the midst of lockdowns and uncertainty, I created the “Fuck Crochet Pillow Pattern” to inject some humor and show that crochet can be edgy and relevant, especially for a younger crowd. The pattern was designed to break the stereotype and offer something fun that speaks to the realities of modern life.
To my surprise, the pattern took off on TikTok, quickly gaining a massive following. What started as a playful project soon became a viral sensation, leading to a series of new patterns, each more popular than the last. The “Fuck Crochet Pillow” might be silly, but it marked a turning point for me, helping to grow a platform where I could promote crochet and fiber arts to a broader, more diverse audience

The chart
Feel free to increase the size of this pillow by adding rows to above the text and below the text, or to each side of the text by increasing your initial chain length in multiples of 2. (ex, this pattern starts with a ch of 76. To increase, you would increase to 78, or 80).
The pattern is done in two parts, a front panel and a back panel. They are stitched separately and then crocheted together at the end, prior to stuffing the pillow.
You will be working the letters of the text backward with the bobble stitch, which means your first bobble will be the top corner of your “K”, followed by the “C”, then “U”, then “F”. As your piece starts to take shape, you’ll notice the word starting to form, and perhaps will let out a little giggle as you see fit.
The chain 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. When making the front panel, the bobble stitches are always made on the right side of your work. The row of single crochet is always the wrong side of your work. The single crochets on either side of your bobble stitches help make the stitch puff outward.

When you get to the end of that first row, sc 4 times in corner, turn your work and continue sc in each stitch on back and front panel along the side. Sc 4 times in top corner, continue stitching along the top of your pillow, sc 4 times in corner, stitch about 1/2 way down final side.
Stuff pillow to personal puffiness preference. Once stuffed to your liking, continue on the final side to seal up your pillow. Sc 3 times in the final corner.
