Handmade Crochet Holiday Gift Guide 2024

It’s that time of year again—the time when all of us makers set out with the ambitious goal of a handmade holiday season. We write our lists, we get our supplies, and then we find ourselves staring down the very long tunnel of overwhelm as the days tick closer and closer.

If you’re like me, you have procrastinated your way into panic mode this year. To help with some of that fear, I compiled a list of handmade crochet gift items you can make for your loved ones, and estimated time it will take you to get done.

Quick and easy handmade crochet gifts to give

The nice thing about crochet is that you can typically make small, useful gifts fairly quickly. Here are a few of my favorite crochet gifts to give to your friends and family for the holiday season.

Dish cloths

Crochet dish cloths are a fantastic gift to give for the holidays. When made from the right fiber (ahem, cotton) they can last YEARS. My mom still has a dish cloth I made for her over a decade ago. Here’s a quick video tutorial I did on TikTok a while back.

Crochet bags and purses

Giving a crochet bag or purse as a gift is a really fun way to showcase your skills and give the receiver something useful for their day-to-day. Whether you crochet something like a laptop case, a coin purse, or a purse, they tend to work up really quickly and make amazing gifts.

One of my favorite crochet purse patterns to use is this one from HookedMe for her Maggie Bag.

I’ve also been curating my list of bags to make on Pinterest.

Crochet hats

This works especially well for those of you who are gifting crochet gifts to those in cold weather. Crochet beanies and hats work up usually in a few hours, and make amazing gifts that your loved ones can wear year after year.

If you’re in a time crunch, I would definitely try this pattern from Crochet Dreamz. It uses chunky yarn and ends up taking about an hour from start to finish. Perfect to make when you have to meet up with someone you totally forgot to shop for.

Crochet pillows

Shameless plug, BUT for those in your life that love a little something subversive, gifting them a funny crochet pillow is an easy and quick gift idea.

I have a bunch of free crochet patterns you can find here, and also sell the ad-free PDFs on my Etsy.

Stuffies and amigurumi

Making crochet stuffies is typically pretty quick and generally beginner friendly. They make wonderful gifts that can be personalized to your receiver’s liking. Chances are, if you’ve thought about something, there’s an amigurumi pattern for it.

One of the pattern books I love most for adorable amigurumi is Drew Hill’s Crochet Magical Creatures.

Bigger crochet gifts to give

Not every crochet gift is small or quick or easy. Some require months of planning and hours of work. However, for those special people in your life, a fully involved gift is absolutely warranted.

Crochet blankets

From baby blankets to king-sized throws, crochet blankets take a LOT of work and a LOT of hours. They are beautiful heirlooms that often stay with families for generations, but they are extremely time-intensive.

Crochet sweaters

One of my all-time favorite things to make, crochet sweaters make amazing gifts. They do require you to do a bit more research as you need to understand your receiver’s size and preferences.

Some of the most incredible sweaters I have ever made have been designed by Rachel from Evelyn and Peter.

Happy gifting

No matter what crochet gift you choose to give your loved ones this holiday season, know that it’s always such a wonderful gesture to put your time and energy into something special. By making handmade, you’re putting your support outside of profits of a mega-corporation, and into this amazing thing you’ve made. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to seeing what you make!
