Stitch Guide

Single Crochet (sc)

Insert hook into stitch, pull through 1 loop (leaving 2 loops on the hook), yarn over, pull through both loops.

Color Changing

As you’re moving through a single crochet stitch, when you are left with the 2 loops on the hook, do not complete the stitch with your current color. Drop Color A, grab Color B, and pull it through the 2 loops on your hook. Continue on to your next stitch with the new color. This creates a seamless transition with no knots.

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern is worked in a front panel and back panel, which are joined together after the panels are complete.
  • You may choose to:
    • Make one pillow with text on both sides, or
    • Make two separate pillows, one for each phrase.
  • For odd-numbered rows, the front of the panel faces you.
For even-numbered rows, the back of the panel faces you.
  • It’s extremely important to reference the charts while stitching to ensure your letters line up correctly, especially if a stitch is accidentally added or skipped.
  • This pattern is written in US terms for right-handed crocheters.
Left-handed crocheters can follow the chart and work the text pattern from the end, backwards.

Join the Pieces

With your hook still on the last stitch, insert your hook into the bottom corner of your front panel. Insert hook through the next stitch in both the front and back panels and join with a single crochet. Continue across to the corner.

Work 4 single crochets in the corner, turn your work, and continue single crocheting evenly along the side. Work 4 single crochets in the top corner, continue across the top, then work 4 single crochets in the next corner. Stitch about halfway down the final side.

Stuff the pillow with poly-fil to your desired level of puffiness. Continue stitching down the final side to seal the pillow closed, working 3 single crochets in the final corner.

Tie off and weave in all ends. You did it.
